Black Beauty
A white-faced heron is painted in great detail, seen from the side standing on a rock, one leg slightly raised in an elegant pose. This small heron species is mostly a blue-grey colour, with a white face and long grey bill, contrasted by a light yellow eye and long yellow legs. The prickly branches of a native lime bush poke throughout this painting – but this is the native habitat where the life cycle of the Dainty Swallowtail Butterfly takes place.
