Black Beauty
A white-faced heron is painted in great detail, seen from the side standing on a rock, one leg slightly raised in an elegant pose. This small heron species is mostly a blue-grey colour, with a white face and long grey bill, contrasted by a light yellow eye and long yellow legs. Bright Hopes
The prickly branches of a native lime bush poke throughout this painting – but this is the native habitat where the life cycle of the Dainty Swallowtail Butterfly takes place. Eggs, a caterpillar, two camouflaged chrysalis, a butterfly that has just emerged and is hanging to dry its wings, and at the top of the painting, a butterfly that has just taken off for its first flight.
