Seeds of Happiness

Artwork Description

This original artwork was inspired by a photo I took in Brisbane's Toohey Forest - when flocks of vulnerable Glossy Black Cockatoos were displaced by the 2019/2020 fires and came here in search of casuarina seeds. This female Cockatoo looks very proud of herself, enjoying a feast of seeds, and showing off her wings and gorgeous tail feathers. In this artwork, she is a symbol of hope. Glossy Black Cockatoo populations have been declining, mostly due to land clearing that has removed the trees they use for a food source and nesting sites. It is one of our more threatened species of cockatoo in Australia, and is declared vulnerable in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, and endangered in South Australia and across Australia.
