Orion Owl
Artwork Description
This artwork combines two of my favourite things - wildlife art, and astronomy! I love the night sky, and wanted to share my sense of wonder through the eyes of a Barn Owl - a creature of the night. With glittering eyes, the owl looks in wonder at the night sky. What colours does he see? What mysteries are revealed? Barn Owls live on every continent except Antarctica, and Orion can be seen from almost everywhere on our planet. For those astronomically inclined - the Orion Nebula has been painted as accurately as the flowy nature of wet-in-wet watercolour paint would allow, and the larger stars are mostly in the right places! If you look closely, the Trapezium star cluster at the bright center of the nebula is there too. Both reference images for this painting, the owl and the nebula, were taken by me.
