Most mornings here in Brisbane, I wake up to the songs of neighbourhood magpies as they greet the dawn. Along with the kookaburra's laugh, the magpie's song is one of my favourite sounds in Australian nature. It is said that Magpies are spiritual messengers. I hope that the balance of the dark and light in the magpie's feathers, the intricate abstract textures, and the blue tones of the floral designs all inspire contemplation of the natural world around us.
