Glossy Black Cockatoos travel long distances in search of fresh casuarina cones, and they have been visiting my local bushland recently. In the middle of suburban Brisbane! Though it’s exciting to see these beautiful birds in my local forest – it’s also bittersweet, knowing their visits to suburbia are caused by bushfires and loss of habitat elsewhere. I wanted to paint a more positive feeling here with light and colour, with the sunrise background a symbol of hope.
